Falling in love with writing again

I started writing about ten years ago. It wasn’t very serious at first; it was just a coping method and a much healthier one than some others I’d tried. Then gradually things changed and I became much more serious about this writing thing. I started doing NaNoWriMo, jumped obsessively from story to story and became a great fan of freewriting. NaNoWriMo 2014 diary: Part 1 of 2

Diary part 1

Before NaNoWriMo started I decided to keep a diary for the month. Usually diaries or journalling aren’t my kind of thing but I thought it might be interesting to document my slow failure and descent into (even more) self-loathing. Like many other writers I have a melancholy personality which leads to great swings between burning passion and depressive moments.

So, I’m just going to leave this here. I didn’t rewrite it into nice sentences; I have other nice sentences to go write.

Nasal memory

Have you ever noticed how smelling a certain smell can sweep you head over heels down memory lane? How the smell of chalk dust can have you sitting back in school? How the smell of your favourite dinner as a kid can have you feeling like a child in your mother’s house again? It might be nice to feel like a kid again, but not so much fun to be back in school. That’s the thing with nasal memory. It takes you back to both good places and bad places without discrimination.

I had this work for me both ways recently, but I don’t think I want either back again.
