Laughter and books make life a little easier

Your brain on writing

Well, hello. Merry Chris─ No wait, that’s not yet. I’m still muddled over the days. In November I’m always acutely aware what the date is and how many days there are left to the end of the month, but in December… well, let’s just say you’re lucky if I know what day of the week it is, nevermind what the actual date is.

However! I may have an explanation why I’m so muddle-headed. A word of warning: I drew this last night while watching Terry Pratchett’s Going Postal in one corner of the screen and drawing in what was left over of the space. If it sounds weird, blame the movie.

Also, you will not know what the date is. 😆

Moving on.

Seeing that I am at least aware of the fact that it is December, I am Capturing December. When Beth announced she was doing this challenge, I decided to join in. I could do with a challenge right now. Maybe it will help with my general confusedness. This challenge is a true challenge for me, because I don’t have half the things it asks you to photograph. I doubt we’ll be putting up the Christmas tree this year, we don’t do the present-thing and Christmas shopping frankly scares me. So, some creative thinking will have to be done here. Anyway, I definitely won’t be posting photos everyday. We all know I’m notorious with regular blogging when promised, so I thought three batches of ten pictures each should do it. No, wait, December has 31 days. Well, I’ll make a plan for the poor lost last pic.

Without further ado, here are the first ten pictures!

December challenge1

1 – Your view today. It’s such a nice one, isn’t it? I’m cleaning out my notes and things. It’s such a strange feeling, to see a year’s worth of notes and assignments and revision reduced to six heaps on the floor.

2- Favourite holiday movie. I know, I know. This isn’t even a full movie. But I love, love, love Gift of the Night Fury, one of the How to Train Your Dragon shorts. It’s constantly on repeat around here. 😛 Also, this isn’t technically a photo, it’s a screencap. But, in fairness, I did take the screencap myself.

3- Red. My nail polish…? It seems to be the only red thing around here at the moment. So I did one of those cliché pictures.

4- Joyous. Joy is finding this perfect Tolkien Diary. It’s more than a decade outdated, which is probably why I picked it up for a song. It has the most gorgeous illustrations for each month and matching quotes from The Silmarillion. 😀

5- Today’s temperature. I’m sorry, but I don’t know how you photograph a temperature. Unless I could have found a thermometer… So, it’s a drawing! 😛

6- Shopping. Being fascinated in the second-hand bookshop.

7- Bright. I just love this lens flare. It’s just a really bright, white bulb on the other side, but it made this green lens flare.

8- Ornament(s). We don’t do the baubles-and-fairy-lights-thing. But we do have these origami stars!

9- Something you’re reading. It doesn’t make for a great picture, I know. Black and white in an eBook is great for reading, but not so pretty for the covers, but this is all I have. I’m reading A Game of Thrones and I’m kind of glued to it at the moment. Ah, so good!

10- Wrapping paper. I don’t even know if this’ll get used at all. But here is some wrapping paper. 😉

And that’s all!

You may have noticed the emailing format and main page layout have changed. It was brought to my attention again by Syed Shahrukh Kamal and he convinced me to start using excerpts for posts. It may make the archive look a bit awkward, but I guess that’s the price to pay. I’ve also heard that the blog looks a bit weird in Internet Explorer, but as a die-hard IE-hater myself, I don’t know if I can be bothered to do anything about it! 😉

Then I will bow out for this week, folks. On Thursday (when’s that again? ;)) I’m going to see The Hobbit! Eeeeeeeeee! 😀 Two years of waiting and there are suddenly only two days left. Or something. This is unreal. And soooo exciting. And scary. All at the same time! 😀

Gosh, you’re so beautifully creative! BTW, how did you get the snowflakes to fall? Love the effect! 🙂

    • Well, I’m happy you think so! 🙂
That’s WordPress’s own feature. I turned it on more than two years ago and it has kept returning faithfully ever since. Go to Dashboard > Settings > General and tick the box right down at the bottom. 🙂

  2. LOL! I agree 100% reading does create some brain damage, but I like it.

    • Oh yes! And I never like it more than when a book is begging me to read more, like Game of Thrones is doing at the moment! 🙂
